FREE Activities for Young People!
Thr 20 Jun 2019

The Wells Harbour Maritime Trust (WHMT) is a registered charity run by the Wells harbour commissioners that provides opportunities for young people to get active in the harbour and develop skills and personal qualities through a range of maritime activities. The trust aims to advance the education and training and promote social and personal development of young people between the ages of 5 and 20 who live in the locality. The trust also aims to advance the education of marine life, coastal habitats and environmental impacts.

I have recently taken on the role of WHMT Education and Activities Co-Ordinator for the Trust and I will be planning a variety of events and promoting the trust and its aims. Young people live in a world of technology today but for good health it is important for them to be active, social and linked to nature.

I will be creating a Facebook, Instagram and Twitter page on social media where you can keep up to date with events and activities so please look out for ‘WHMT Activities’ pages. I will also be keeping you up to date with events via the quay magazine and the Haven. I will be organising visits to local schools to talk to the children directly about these opportunities.
The aim is to encourage as many young people as possible to enjoy having ‘fun on the water’ as there are so many benefits to health and self-esteem as well as education and the development of life long skills. We live in such a beautiful part of North Norfolk and my role will be to inspire young people to get connected to it, enjoy it and the hope is that these young people of today will help to look after and protect this amazing coastline for the future.

Activities will include- group sailing lessons at Whitlingham Adventure Lake, kayaking/rowing activities, swimming courses, diving courses, educational boat trips, beach clean and environmental days plus lots more! We are so lucky to have a charity funding these events for local young people all for ‘ Free ! ’
