DREDGING SKIPPERSTwo part-time Skippers are required for the Port of Wells vessel Kari Hege, a 24 metre, 200 tonne motorised barge carrying a purpose built excavator that maintains the channel to a depth of 1metre during neap tides. The position will form part of a team of two working with the long-reach excavator driver.
The primary essential qualities required are:
Considerable experience handling large vessels in tidal conditions
Full understanding of navigational charts and dredge cartography.
Ability to work flexible hours to suit tides is essential.
Ability to operate to the highest professional standards
Ability to work in a small team
Ability to work on own initiative
Good inter-personal skills.
There are two part-time positions rotating between two or three days per week. The working day is 9 hours around tide times and therefore the candidates would be expected to work some unsociable hours.
Crew will be expected to carry out maintenance work when possible during the working day while the excavator is not working.
