Noel next the sea was a sheer joy

Chris Bishop, editor of the Fakenham & Wells Times reported on the arrival of Santa in his editorial piece on Thursday 17th December.

He wrote :" Noel next to the sea was a sheer joy. Yule not need me to tell you this if you were there, but Santa's arrival in Wells on Saturday (12th) night was truly a joy to behold. From the carols and the kids calling him in across the harbour, to the fantastic firework display and surreal dancing penguins, Noel-next-the-Sea was an evening of full on festive fun from start to finish. While it earns its keep as a working harbour, the port has hosted some stunning events this year, from the madcap carnival raft race and the Wells Triathlon to the triumphant return of the historic Dunkirk lifeboat Lucy Lavers. Their success was in no small part down to the enthusiasm of the harbour master and his team who are always ready to go the extra mile to do the town proud. ChristmasTide topped them all. Thousands turned out on a blustery winter's night to welcome Santa ashore despite the dire weather forecasts. If you were a youngster, it must all have been sheer magic down on the quay when the boat appeared with the main man waving on deck dressed in his original, pre Coca Cola costume. Santa probably ended up in the best part of 1000 selfies as he made his way through the cheering, mobile phone waving throng with his sack, his gaggle of dancing feathered friends and boom-badda-boom samba band. There cannot have been a face young or old around the quayside not wearing a smile ....
