Little Terns nesting at Outer Harbour
Mon 10 Jun 2013

Back

Little Terns are once again making use of the shingle bank at the Outer Harbour, as a safe nest site. There seem to be more pairs than last year and Wells Harbour Commissioners has commissioned another survey and the results will be reported at the end of the season.

A good view can be seen with binoculars or a telescope from the main bank footpath, so please help us keep the tern colony undisturbed by not allowing your dogs onto the site, or going there yourselves.
Little Terns are highly protected and to disturb them is also against the law. There are signs asking people to keep off - please help us encourage everyone to do this.

Other species to be seen on the Outer Harbour Bank include nesting Black Headed Gulls, Oystercatchers, Ringed Plover, and sometimes Mediterranea Gull, Common Gull and Arctic Tern.
