The dredging team has completed the first phase of work for preparing the harbour for windfarm operations. The area at 'Buxton's Bight' to the south of the lifeboat house has been dug out to provide a minimum water depth and the displaced material used to construct two sandbanks on the south and east edges to provide shelter for moored vessels.
The outer jetty area currently holds a minimum depth of 2.7m at low water but this will drop to 1m when the dredger clears the entrance to connect it with the main channel.
Services for the new jetty have been installed on the Beach Bank and work will begin shortly on piling for the pontoons and installing the access walkway.
The dredger is presently working on deepening the main channel between the no. 10 and no. 6 buoys. Material is being moved to the east side of the channel to form a berm which will help the channel retain its depth.
